Background about the Foreigners Department Mancomunidad Costa del Sol Occidental
The Mancommunity of the Western Costa del Sol was constituted VOLUNTARILY by the towns/ villages of Benahavís, Benalmádena, Casares, Estepona, Fuengirola, Istán, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas, Ojén and Torremolinos , more than twenty five years ago to manage a series of services such as rubbish collection, water supply and water depuration.This organization gathers a total of 22 members representatives of each municipality including their mayors, being these the ones who constitute the Managing Committee; the procedure of their election is directly subjected to the results in the municipal elections so, these representatives are subject to renewal every four years. This present legislature (2003-007) is held by an agreement among I.U.L.V.-C.A., P.S.O.E. and the P.D.M.(Independent party of Manilva), being the chairman the mayor of Casares, Mr. Sánchez García militant of I.U.L.V.-C.A.

The Mancommunity has its headquarters in the district of Marbella in order to set a geographical point of reference for a region which extends itself along nearly 100 km. of coastal land and lumps together several nearby villages sited in the mountains.
