The Asociación Andaluza de Grupos Caninos de Rescate will train volunteers from the Protección Civil de Coín so the dogs can be employed in risk situations.

Coín will have its own canine rescue team thanks to the collaboration agreement signed by the City Council with the Asociación Andaluza de Grupos Caninos de Rescate (UCRA). This non-profit group helps with the search and location of missing persons in collapsed structures over large areas and therefore will provide Protección Civil de Coín volunteers with the training required to train their dogs for this work. "It's a process that lasts about a year and a half for the animals and their handlers so they are fully prepared to be operational before the search for a missing person," said the president of UCRA, Daniela Aguera. The association representative indicated that they are authorized to work in all the natural parks of Andalucia and they usually notified about 112 calls when an emergency occurs. The handlers and their animals receive professional training according to the rules set by the UN, and will have to pass rescue dogs tests from the Escuela Nacional de protección Civil and are dependant on the Ministerio del Interior.

The agreement is valid for one year although it is expected to be renewed for another year so the rescue unit group is fully prepared. This would mean that the Protección Civil de Coín could then participate in tasks that required them to use a specialised dog unit providing a better service to all citizens.

"It's a great deal for the town of Coín as the local authority will not take any financial benefit in exchange for Protección Civil de Coín volunteers having the opportunity to improve their training with professionals,”said the mayor of Coín, Fernando Fernández, who was accompanied by the Councillor of Seguridad and Protección Civil, Antonio González during the signing of the agreement.
