Benahavis Works Completed
Peter letters emailed to say he has had many enquiries in 2010 regarding “public works” and have listed below some information regarding works completed by the Ayuntamiento over the last few years.
Improvements.
Several works have been undertaken to improve existing public areas including the streets, squares and the cemetery. Security fences have been installed and stroller paths upgraded in the parks. Child friendly floors are being laid in the park play areas. The fencing and building of toilet facilities at La Ermita was conducted in order to improve cleanliness and safety. Other works are the new street signs, the sports pavilion upgrade, the new gymnasium and various other sports facilities. There have also been improvements at the municipal swimming pool to improve safety and hygiene for bathers.
Completed building projects
There have been works to build #new facilities and buildings. The facilities include Parque Torre Leoneras, which helped Benahavis win first prize for parks and gardens by the Club de Jardineria de la Costa del Sol. The skateboard park with floodlighting, a petanca court, the school park with a kiosk and chess tables (the floor has been recently resurfaced with a child friendly material. An extension to the kindergarten will open soon. The new Social Centre for over 65´s on Avenida Andalucia should be open early in 2011. A new park, kiosk and rest area at La Quinta has also been built.
The sports facilities were greatly enhanced with the opening of the golf range. Work in that area continues and conversion work has started on the white cottage with completion due in the Spring. The plans are for a golf clubhouse with terrace overlooking the football pitch. The football pitch itself continues to attract well known teams from all over Europe and recent additions are around 400 seats and the much improved floodlighting and irrigation systems. The padel tennis courts are newly enclosed, a new surface has been laid and floodlighting installed. The old tennis court now enjoys floodlighting and work will continue on it over 2011. An indoor tennis court itself is now housed in the pabellon, where the area doubles as a circuit training area, basketball and handball court.
The gymnasium has recently been extended and now includes a private aerobic area.
