Benahavis – Utilities and Nature

With Spring upon us it seems a good time to have a look at some of the less obvious Ayuntamiento works that have been completed or are currently underway.
Utilities
(Electricity)
Improvements in the utility sectors include 2 new electrical sub stations having been constructed and are awaiting Sevillana/Endesa to make the appropriate connections to the national grid. One is located on the hill to the south of the village and the other adjacent to the E15. Both are intended to ensure an improved electrical supply for the municipality.
(Water)
The company Aguas de Benahavis has been created to maintain the quality of water at a high level for the urbanisations throughout the municipality. This service is currently being rolled out and over time will have responsibility as the main water provider in Benahavis. Los Arqueros was the first to be converted and other urbanisations will be turned on over time. Should there be any questions regarding water please direct them to Aguas de Benahavis in their village centre office. (952 855 273)
Investment in Nature and Gardens
Parking spaces and picnic areas have been created in places of specific natural beauty in order that visitors and neighbours alike can sit and enjoy the views. The canyon road leading to “Charco de las Mozas” is particularly popular. Please take some time to stop for a few minutes and admire the nature. Also, earlier this year information boards were erected explaining the nature, geography and the history of the views you will encounter.
To protect nature there is a full subsidy of “Tragsa”, they are the company responsible for clearing and removing from the roadsides inflammable materials and litter. Tragsa also aid the fire brigade in alerting them to imminent danger.
There is also a project underway to plant “almond” trees along the roadsides into Benahavis. In 2009 there were around 1,000 saplings planted, the project is continuing with around 5,500 trees planted to date.
There has been significant investment in new Benahavís service vehicles such as the sweeper truck, bin lorries, the road hosing vehicles, cleaning machinery, the yellow JCB and the much used forklift. All these vehicles are in use year round throughout the municipality. In addition the Nave ( the storage facility and services centre) has facilities for storing and washing all the vehicles and the hundreds of waste containers.
Best regards,
Peter
