06/19/2012 - 'Healing the Past' with Spiritual Counsellor/Healer Sharon Melville on Tuesday 19 July at 7.15pm with Marbella Healing Circle
Marbella Healing Circle's next Event is on Tuesday 19 July at 7.15pm - 8.45pm at Sonrisa Studios, 49 Ricardo Soriano, Marbella
Sharon will be talking about Healing the Past in the Present.
How many of us continue to live our lives when there are still unresolved issues from our past that need to be healed before we can totally move forward. During this meeting and meditation we will be doing a healing process and technique that allows this to happen, you will be amazed at how powerful it is for letting go of the past and cleansing it. Many times things from our past keep recurring, as patterns in the present, it is time to let go of them once and for all. It doesn't matter how big or how painful the issue or experience of the past is, it can be healed. This is a technique that I use in my work as a Healer and found it to be extremely beneficial. Most people don't even realise how big a part it plays in their life, they are so used to living with it, but once it has been cleansed both the mind, body and spirit are free and uplifted, instead of hanging on to old, hurts, wounds and sorrows.
Sharon has been working as a Spiritual Counsellor and Healer for the past 20 years, helping people to achieve harmony and well-being in their lives, with both emotional and physical issues. She works from the heart not the head, teaching life skills that can be used throughout life and not just through difficult times.

06/03/2012 - A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY ... SUNDAY 3RD JUNE: CHARITY FAMILY FUN DAY
A special Charity Family Fun Day is being organised for Sunday June 3rd to coincide with the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration weekend in the UK.
The event will be held at Lauro Golf Academy, on the road from Alhaurin el Grande to Alhaurin de la Torre.
Organisers are now looking for charity groups to take stalls to raise money for their own organisations and a limited number of suitable businesses will also be offered the opportunity to promote their products. There is no fee for charities although businesses will be charged 20 per pitch. Company sponsorship is also encouraged.
The fun day will incorporate a traditional Family Sports Day, live entertainment, demonstrations, shows, stalls, tombola, beat the goalie, Bouncy Castle, games, candy floss, popcorn, wine tasting and much more.
The highlight of the day will be a Family Sports Day organised by Kidz Inland, a voluntary group which runs regular events in the Coin and Alhaurin area. The Family Sports Day will take every child back to the old school sports day events such as egg and spoon, beanbag race, sack race and a mums v dads tug-o-war event.
Live music will be provided by the hugely popular Costa Rock who will give a performance of their 80s music through to rock numbers whilst there will be a series of demonstrations and shows by local theatrical, dance and sports groups.
Food will be a mixture of traditional British fare through to curries and paellas whilst local stalls will also features cakes, biscuits and treats.
The event is also being run in conjunction with the 4th annual Big Lunch which falls on the same weekend as the Diamond Jubilee. The Big Jubilee Lunch will also be held at the Charity Family Fun Day with caterers providing a range of traditional food from the Big Lunch Recipe book.
Back in 1977 some 10 million people partied in the streets to celebrate the Silver Jubilee. Event and organiser Lisa Sadleir, of Family Life in Spain, is hoping the British community will get into the spirit of this event and encourages other nationalities to come along and taste a little of British culture.
Lisa said: "This event is aimed at having fun! We are hoping that it will demonstrate the good old community spirit is alive and well on the Costa del Sol. The more charities that can benefit from the event the better. I look forward to hearing from you".
For further information and to book a stall contact Lisa Sadleir onfamilylifeinspain@gmail.com or tel: 608 840 692.

Hello my name is Mia and at a routine 20 week scan my Parents were told that their unborn baby had excess cerebral Spinal fluid (CSF) on the brain and were told to make a decision whether I would be here today. My parents researched on the internet to find more information and found that parents in America were having their babies cord blood stem cells banked and re-infused when the baby was born to help with paediatric brain damage.
As I grew the CSF increased squashing my brain, at 35 weeks, 6 days they decided to deliver me by caesarean because my head was measuring 40 weeks gestation and could be too risky to leave me in my warm water bed any longer. My cord blood was taken and is stored in a private blood bank.
I was taken to intensive care and when I was 3 days old I had an operation to place a device called a ventricular peritoneal shunt in my head with a tube running down to my abdomen to drain away any excess fluid, this helps decrease intracranial pressure. The shunt is fitted for life, it is not a cure but a means to drain away the fluid. Shunts can malfunction or get infected and if this happens I need urgent medical attention within 4 hours of symptoms. A week later I had an eye test which revealed I had "optic nerve hypoplasia" (ONH) meaning under-developed optic nerves and I would be visually impaired, to what extent they will not know until I get older. Because of this finding I had to have an MRI scan, due to the excessive amount of fluid on the brain they could not get a clear picture but noticed that the midline part of my brain is missing called the Septum Pellucidum resulting in a disorder called "septo optic dysplasia",( SOD) or "demorsiers syndrome.
I do not focus, follow or reach out for objects; I may have some light perception as I squint in bright light and show an interest in a red and green laser light. I recently had an eye test and there is no improvement and commented that I have a severe visual impairment. My parents have been liaising with the hospital in America, sending my MRI images and medical records and after reviewing all of the information they have confirmed that I am eligible for cord blood infusion.
The treatment is to re-infuse my cord blood stem cells via an intravenous line, they will infuse on day 1 and aftercare on day 2 if there is enough cord blood left I can return at a later date. The cost is approximately £10,000 per treatment.
Doctors in England have said there is no cure for people with ONH/SOD but there are trials happening in China already on children and adults whom have reported that it has made a difference to their sight, but not clinically proven however this treatment costs approximately £40,000 and several infusions are carried out over a period of a month using other peoples stem cells.
Hopefully in the future trials in England will be carried out using stem cells to rebuild optic nerves.
Background Information:
HYDROCEPHALUS - "water on the brain"
Occurs when there is a buildup of fluid on the brain and spinal cord (cerebrospinal fluid or csf). This buildup of fluid causes higher than normal pressure on the brain. Too much pressure, or pressure that is present too long, will damage the brain tissue resulting in developmental delays.
OPTIC NERVE HYPOPLASIA
Optic nerves that are small and poorly developed, instead of having over 1 million connections from each eye to the brain, people have far fewer connections. The more connections between the eye and the brain the better the vision. Some people have near normal vision in one eye, others have decreased vision in both eyes, and others are severely affected and nearly blind. The front surface of the optic nerve (optic disc) appears smaller than normal.
SEPTO OPTIC DYSPLASIA - "DeMorsiers syndrome"
The midline part of the brain is missing called the septum pellucidum, typically people have abnormalities of the brain. These abnormalities may include how the brain is formed (brain structure) and how the brain works (brain function). Problems can range from mild to very serious. SOD can also effect the:
Pituitary Gland growth, sexual development & metabolism
Cortisol creates energy, controls blood sugar & allows for proper heart and lung function
Thyroid Gland growth & metabolism
Anti-Diuretic Hormone responsible for keeping water in the body, avoiding dehydration
Cord Blood Used to Treat Hydrocephalus
Case Study - Submitted by Adam Zuccato on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 08:21
At a regularly-scheduled ultrasound, parents to be were excited to get a glimpse of their new baby, Parker. They remarked that the size of her head meant that she would be brilliant; however, they were sadly informed that she, in fact, had a buildup of fluid in her brain. She was diagnosed with 'hydrocephalus'.
They quickly began researching and discovered that an umbilical cord transfusion could save her life. The family then contacted Duke University, USA in order to arrange for their daughter to receive a transfusion of her own cord blood.
In the meantime, Parker's head was growing so quickly that her doctors were unsure how much of her brain could be salvaged. They decided to deliver the baby two months early; she was born with a head the size of a toddler's. The buildup of fluid caused her brain to compress and, with underdeveloped optic nerves, Parker was likely to become blind.
Shortly after her birth, the family decided to go through with the cord blood transplant. Afterwards, Parker started to show signs of improvement and it wasn't long before she gained the ability to track movement with her eyes. She has shown such promising progress, that the family has scheduled another transfusion when she reaches 11 months of age in hopes that she will continue to improve.

05/17/2012 - Invitation to meet the artists featured in CINCO MENTES Mijas
You are invited to a special evening showing to meet the artists now being featured in CINCO MENTES at the Mijas Ayuntamiento on Thursday, May 17th, from 6 to 8pm. Enjoy tapas and paintings, wine and sculpture, good cheer and pottery and discover something deeply felt (see below.)
Find out how five artists use matter to communicate joy, movement, stillness and the love of nature. In this exhibition, also open from 9 to 2 Monday through Friday until June 4th, the material realms of wood, graphite, iron, paint, clay and fiber are explored and celebrated by Jenepher Wendy Ross, Alexi Kruyt, Anne Hird, Mark Pirlet, and Pam Hendricks. These artists represent diverse international influences from Scotland, Belgium, Holland and California reaching into Latin America, Africa and finally, southern Spain.
Jenepher Wendy Ross is an accomplished sculptor widely recognized for rendering horses and birds as pure movement. She often uses discarded iron, joining pieces of metal with a form of gas welding she finds very satisfying. Jenepher also uses other found materials to communicate meaning beyond their original purpose. Bits of iron and brass become cityscapes or even mythical ships.
When Alexi Kruyt discovered clay she immediately knew it belonged to her, evoking the same deep response that she had experienced working with her beloved plants and the soil. Ceramic glazes give her the opportunity to express and communicate her color memories from the years she lived in Africa and Latin America. She says she would not have become an artist without clay.
Teaching creative dance inspires Anne Hird to be especially aware of flow and balance in her drawings and paintings. This is dance on canvas. Twenty years in Nigeria added texture to this dance. Anne's most recent body of work focuses on the Andalusian country side in both landscape and close up and details natural beauty as well as the passage of time.
The exhibition continues with figure paintings and sculptures portraying human flight by Belgian artist Mark Pirlet and little gems of dry wool felting (deeply felt!) and other materials by California fiber artist Pam Hendricks.
